Pirates’ math specialist to speak at Grove City
GROVE CITY, PA.
Dan Fox, director of Baseball Informatics for the Pittsburgh Pirates, will be at Grove City College to discuss how analytics have revolutionized baseball and helped turn the team’s fortunes around.
Fox will speak on April 21 at 4 p.m., in Sticht Auditorium in the Hall of Arts and Letters on campus.
The event is free and open to the public.
Scrappers bobblehead package now on sale

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers have announced a new bobblehead package for the 2016 season. The package includes three guaranteed bobbleheads: Bo Pelini on June 25, Dave Grohl on July 22, and Bradley Zimmer, which is TBA. The package also includes a game ticket to each bobblehead night and a ticket to the Scrappers’ Fourth of July game.
Box seat ticket bobblehead packages may be purchased for $40 and premium box seat ticket bobblehead packages are on sale for $48. Packages are limited to the first 100 purchased and are on sale now. Miller says Manziel is not his roommate

Von Miller says he and Johnny Manziel are homies but not roomies.
The Super Bowl MVP posted an Instagram photo Monday to let the world know that he’s not in fact rooming with Manziel as the troubled quarterback told TMZ.
Miller superimposed the two players’ heads on the “Step Brothers” moving poster starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly — Miller’s face on Ferrell’s and Manziel’s on Reilly’s.
He wrote: “Lol, you guys are HILARIOUS!!! Haha, I love it. Johnny’s not staying with me but he is my BROTHER! Like I’ve said a thousand times, I got his back no matter what! #LOVE #gigem @jmanziel2”
Manziel recently told TMZ outside a bar in West Hollywood, California, that he was living with Miller.
Former Phantom Connor signs with Jets
Former Youngstown Phantom Kyle Connor decided to be a one-and-done, signing an NHL contract with the Winnipeg Jets after one collegiate season with Michigan.
The 19-year-old announced the signing on Twitter Monday morning. The deal is for three years at $1.75 million a season.
Connor was a Hobey Baker Award finalist with the Wolverines, leading the nation in scoring with 35 goals and 36 assists. Connor played for two seasons with the Phantoms. Last season, he set the franchise record for points in a season (80), leading the USHL in scoring.
Flyers founder, owner Ed Snider dies at 83
PHILADELPHIA
Ed Snider, the Philadelphia Flyers founder whose “Broad Street Bullies” became the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup, has died after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 83.
His family issued a statement that said Snider “was loved and admired for his big heart, generosity of spirit, and dedication to his family.”
Snider was arguably the most influential executive in Philadelphia sports history. He was chairman of the 76ers, was once a part-owner of the Eagles and had a hand in founding both Comcast’s local sports channels and the city’s largest sport-talk radio station.
Marvin Lewis gets one-year extension
CINCINNATI
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis has signed a one-year contract extension through the 2017 season, the third straight year he’s gotten extra time on his deal after losing in the playoffs.
He also got one-year extensions after the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Lewis has coached the Bengals for the last 13 seasons.
