Some drama, a gun, a victim and now someone is in jail
YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said a 56-year-old man was arrested about 5:55 p.m. Sunday at a Boardman apartment building after his son was shot in the leg at a home earlier in the day in the 3000 block of McGuffey Road.
Abdul Fareed, 56, is in the Mahoning County jail on a charge of felonious assault.
Reports said the victim was arguing with Fareed because Fareed yelled at the victim’s 3-year-old brother. Reports said the victim was in the driveway and walked toward Fareed, who pulled a pistol from his vehicle as a third person tried to push the victim out of the way.
Reports said the victim ran but fell on the drive, then heard a shot and was wounded in the leg.
Fareed then drove away with the 3-year-old in his vehicle and another child, who is 5, as well, reports said. Reports said the vehicle was found in the 7000 block of West Boulevard and Fareed was taken into custody there. Reports said a man who lived at the address where the vehicle was found refused a police request to search his home for a firearm. No gun was found in Fareed’s vehicle.
The victim is being treated at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
