Man charged after shooting of toddler

Dionte Robinson, 20, arrested in connection with the shooting of a 3-year-old girl in both legs Saturday, was expected to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today in Youngstown Municipal Court on a charge of child endangering, according to records at the Mahoning County Jail.
The victim was hospitalized after the shooting, which occurred Saturday night on the 300 block of East Boston Avenue.
Take Back the Night

Youngstown State University students, employees and others will participate in the Take Back the Night rally and march 6 p.m. Thursday on campus.
The event honors the survivors of sexual assault and focuses on educating the campus about issues related to rape and sexual violence.
The march starts at The Rock on the campus core.
Before the march, YSU will host a workshop on Bystander Intervention at 5 p.m. in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. Information and resources will be shared with students to teach them how to be positive bystanders in situations of potential sexual assault.
Men asked to walk a mile in high heels

Youngstown State University will present “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” at 10 a.m. April 23. Men will be asked to walk 1 mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. The event is a way to get the community to talk about gender relations and men’s sexualized violence against women, organizers said.

Awards banquet
BOARDMAN
The Boardman Civic Association will host its annual Scholarship Awards Banquet for high-school seniors at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Boardman Holiday Inn.
This year, 126 students from Boardman, Cardinal Mooney, Ursuline and Valley Christian schools met the criteria of achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher while remaining involved in community and civic activities.
Six students will receive scholarships of $750 each. The awards are made possible by the BCA’s scholarship fund, which is supported by BCA members’ contributions and others from the community.
The guest speaker this year is state Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd. The event also will include a tribute to Elaine Mancini, who started the scholarship dinner 26 years ago.
