UPDATE | Kimble rescinds Staten's appointment; selects Shivers for commission

YOUNGSTOWN — Brenda Kimble, city school board president, has rescinded her appointment of Carol Staten to the academic distress commission and appointed Vincent Shivers, a videographer instructor at Choffin Career and Technical Center.

The decision comes after the 7th District of Appeals judges affirmed Judge Lou A. D’Apolito’s decision that Staten, a distant cousin of Kimble’s, isn’t a teacher.

Staten was a substitute principal at the time of her commission appointment. She has since been appointed principal at Discovery at Volney.

Atty. Ted Roberts, who represents Kimble, said Kimble determined after the judges’ decisions that it wasn’t worth the time or expense to pursue a further appeal.
