Community members sound off to MetroParks board

CANFIELD

A large crowd again turned out for the monthly Mill Creek MetroParks board meeting to take park officials to task for recent leadership decisions.

Since a February staff restructuring in which the jobs of 13 park employees were eliminated, many community members have called into question that decision, its consequences and a perceived lack of accountability to taxpayers on the part of MetroParks leaders.

In a statement during Monday’s three-hour-plus meeting that drew a crowd of about 150 people, Commissioner Scott Schulick said that he shares some of the same concerns that have been communicated to him by community members.

“Serving as a park commissioner has been an extremely frustrating position to hold. The park’s challenges are more than overwhelming, with some issues requiring immediate attention, while others will need to be accomplished over longer times frames, if the park is going to succeed going forward,” he said.
