Grant for ramps

NEW CASTLE, PA.

State Rep. Chris Sainato of New Castle, D-9th, announced the city is approved for a state grant to install curb ramps to increase accessibility for people with disabilities and to demolish blighted properties.

The city will receive $274,500 from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The funding is provided through the department’s Community Development Block Grant Program. “I’m pleased to see these tax dollars being awarded to New Castle to help officials not only make improvements to enhance the livelihood of the residents, but to make the city more appealing to visitors,” Sainato said in a news release.

Teen Straight Talk will host its fourth annual Strengthening the Family Conference on April 22 and 23 at DiVieste’s Banquet Center, 754 North River Road.

A banquet will take place at 6 p.m. April 22. Dr. Margaret Meeker, a pediatrician and author, will discuss “Healing Broken Emotions” and address the emotional toll that high-risk behavior has on teens and young adults. Cost is $40 per person or $25 for students. A breakfast and conference exploring “Generational Transfer” is set for 8 a.m. April 23 at the center. Meeker will offer an opening session. There will be a break-out session for teens and a break-out session with Meeker for adults. Cost is $15 per person. Meeker also will have a book-signing during the conference.
