Phantoms break franchise record for goals in blowout over Team USA

PLYMOUTH, MICH.

In capturing their sixth straight victory, the Youngstown Phantoms exploded for 12 goals to set a new franchise record.

Goaltender Ryan Bednard earned his second shutout in 14 days as the Phantoms walloped Team USA’s 17-U squad, 12-0, on Friday.

The scoring output was the most in the team’s seven years in the USHL.

Bednard stopped 38 shots. He posted his first USHL shutout on March 26 when the Phantoms defeated Team USA’s 18-U unit, 3-0, at the Covelli Centre.

Yushiroh Hirano scored four goals while captain Matt Alvaro scored two.

The other goals were scored by Luke McInnis, Connor Moore, Cam Morrison, Vas Kolias, Kevin Conley and Noah Lalonde.

Chase Pearson recorded four assists while Morrison and Alec Mahalak (in his USHL debut) had three apiece. Mahalak, a defenseman, was +6 in the game.

The Phantoms will conclude their season tonight with another game against Team USA’ 17-U team at the Covelli Centre. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
