Mineral Ridge hydrant flushing begins Monday
Staff report
MINERAL RIDGE
The Trumbull County sanitary engineers will continue flushing fire hydrants in the Mineral Ridge Water District from Monday through Friday.
The flushing improves water quality by removing stagnant water, sediment and excessive mineral deposits from the inside walls of the water mains, and discharging them out of the system through fire hydrants, according to a sanitary engineer’s office news release.
The process can be affected by several variables, including traffic, weather, and other unforeseeable conditions. Residents are asked to not call if they have not seen crews in the area, or if a hydrant is running during this time because crews will be moving from hydrant to hydrant to ensure the least amount of inconvenience to customers.
Customers may experience temporary discoloration. The discoloration is not harmful and should clear with one to two hours of flushing.
Customers are advised to run cold water only until is clears, and they are cautioned not to wash clothes the day of or the day after the flushing occurs. Customers may also experience fluctuating water pressure during this process, which is temporary and should return to normal as soon as the crews are finished.
If discoloration continues for more than two hours after crews have left, call 330-675-2775.
