Township Police Chief Richard Tisone said police have identified several suspects in connection with a man and woman found dead in a Frederick Street apartment.
The deaths of Jesse Cooper, 62, of Frederick Street and Gloria Khoury, 39, of Logan Avenue are being investigated as homicides.
Officers responded to the 3200 block of Frederick Street about 11:50 p.m. Thursday due to reports of gunfire. While officers were on their way, a caller told a 911 dispatcher that her friend went downstairs to check what was going on and saw one of the victims dead.
Tisone said both deaths appear to be homicides, although the Trumbull County coroner will determine the official causes.
“We’re looking at several intriguing individuals,” Tisone said in reference to suspects. “I anticipate we will get to the bottom of this soon.”
As of Friday, there were no arrests in the case.
Tisone declined to comment on the condition of the bodies when they were found or any possible relationship between the victims, citing the ongoing investigation. However, he added, “We have a strong inkling of what was going on.”
The Trumbull County Homicide Task Force, the county coroner’s office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation also are involved in the investigation.
Online court records show Cooper had several convictions between 1999 and 2015 through Girard Municipal Court for offenses including theft, receiving stolen property, criminal trespass and violating open-container law.
Liberty police issued a warrant for Khoury’s arrest March 28 for criminal trespass, court records show.
These would be the township’s first homicides since the November 2009 shooting deaths of a 28-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter.
