Weather worries cancel OVI checkpoints

CANFIELD

The Mahoning County OVI Task Force has cancelled the sobriety checkpoints it had planned to conduct this evening because of the expected accumulation of three to five inches of snow, the task force announced this morning.

Conducting checkpoints under these conditions would be unsafe for motorists and police, said Scott Weamer, assistant chief of Canfield police.

The checkpoints will be rescheduled for later this month, he said.
