A couple of barnyard buddies visited Poland North Preschool on March 2.

Students in Joy Bucci, Samantha Cox and Terry Wittenauer’s class listened intently to Kim Moff from Mill Creek MetroParks.

Moff brought in two furry guests for the students to learn about and interact with. Moff started off the morning by teaching the students about different types of animals that would be found on a farm. Moff talked about ducks, sheep, cats, dogs, rabbits, horses and several others. She had a presentation board that she would Velcro each animal on after she talked about them.

When Moff finished teaching the children about the animals, she brought out one of the two she took with her to the school. The first animal was a lionhead rabbit named Snow. Moff took Snow out of her cage and instructed the students as to how they should pet her on her back, not her head. The students lined up and took turns petting Snow.

After the students finished petting Snow, Moff brought out a pygmy goat named Cupid. Cupid was born just a few days after Valentine’s Day. The students lined up to pet Cupid and sometimes he would bleat at them.

The students were given a hands-on learning opportunity seeing animals that aren’t very common household pets, especially a goat.
