The Boardman Rotary Club hosted its 34th annual pancake breakfast at Boardman Park during the weekends of March 12, 13 and 19, 20.
The pancake breakfast takes place over a course of two weekends to help raise funds for the Boardman Rotary Club. The pancake breakfast is an opportunity for members of the community to come together to raise money for a good cause and to also socialize with each other.
“Everything that is raised goes back to the community. This is our second biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Jay Summer, chairmember of the Boardman Rotary Club.
With the purchase of a $6 ticket, a person can enjoy all you can eat pancakes, two pieces of sausage and coffee or juice. Many of the products for the breakfast were donated, and those that had to be purchased were provided with the support of sponsors. Aside from the pancakes, there was also a 50/50 drawing that the guests could purchase tickets for.
“We’ve got some extremely long-term supporters that help us out every year,” said Summer.
Many of the members of the club, Boardman High School Interact students (the high school equivalent of Rotary) and other volunteers helped serve the breakfast and cook the pancakes and sausage.
Last year the breakfast brought in 2,700 people throughout both weekends. This year the Rotary is hoped to bring in closer to 3,000 people. More people tend to come in the morning on Saturdays, while Sundays are the busier days in the afternoon.
“It’s a big fundraiser of ours and it’s what allows us to do what we do, almost everything we do and receive goes back into the community,” said Summer.
