Warren man accused of having sex with dogs allowed bail

WARREN
A city man charged with cruelty to animals after being accused of having sex with two boxer dogs has been granted the chance to leave the Trumbull County jail on $1,500 bond.
If Salvador Rendon, 61, of Ward Avenue Northwest is able to post bond, however, he will not be allowed to return home, have any contact with his wife or any animals, Judge Thomas Gysegem of Warren Municipal Court ruled Thursday.
Rendon was arrested Sunday morning on the allegations and was arraigned Monday. He was ordered held in the jail until after a mental-health evaluation.
Judge Gysegem said the evaluation showed he is a low risk to himself or others. If he makes bond, he will have to be electronically monitored with a bracelet, Judge Gysegem said.
A family member reported Rendon to police, saying the conduct had been occurring for several years. The dogs belong to his daughter, who lived with him.
Several protesters attended the hearing, including Beverly Spicer of Girard, who is an adminstrator for Nitro’s Army of Mahoning and Trumbull County, who said she wants to bring attention to legislation introduced in the Ohio Senate that would outlaw having sex with animals.
She hopes the criminal case will – at the least – prevent Rendon from having any future contact with animals.
