Rust Belt Made’s Spring Makers Market pop-up event is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. April 16 at the SOAP Gallery, 117 S. Champion St.
There will be free parking along Champion Street for community members.
Rust Belt Made’s Makers Market is a curated, pop-up event created by a group of friends and makers. The event will feature talented and like-minded Rust Belt makers and artisans, and local, industrious small businesses.

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, and U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat from Cleveland, are alerting Mahoning Valley business owners to next week’s deadline to sign up to attend a seminar to learn about opportunities to do business with the federal government.
Ryan and Brown will host a workshop April 18 with Small Business Administration officials at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna to outline the process, qualifications and opportunities to become a federal contractor.
Admission is free, but attendees must register by calling 216-522-7272 or emailing brown_rsvp@brown.senate.gov by noon Thursday. Walk-ins will not be permitted.
Health seminar

The Western Reserve Association of Health Underwriters will have a seminar Thursday titled The Role of the Professional Health Insurance Advisor on National Affairs, Healthcare Reform and Industry Associations.
The seminar, hosted at The Fifth Floor Restaurant, 210 E. Commerce St., will be presented by Patricia Griffey, National Association of Health Underwriters region lll vice president, and Michael Embry, National Association of Health Underwriters treasurer.
Registration and light lunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The presentation will take place from noon to 1 p.m. The cost to attend ranges from $10 to $25.

GM official to retire
WARREN, MICH.
Ed Welburn, vice president of General Motors Global Design, told employees Thursday he will retire effective July 1 after a 44-year career with the company.
Michael Simcoe, a 33-year veteran of GM Design and vice president of GM International Design, based in Australia and Korea, has been selected to succeed Welburn. He will be the company’s seventh design leader and begins transitioning into his new role May 1. His replacement has not been named.

Uber settlement
LOS ANGELES
Ride-hailing company Uber will pay at least $10 million to settle allegations by California prosecutors that the ride-hailing company misled passengers about the quality of its driver background checks. The settlement was signed Thursday in San Francisco, where Uber is based.
