Little Learners Academy Preschool welcomed two barnyard buddies to their school on March 11.
Kim Moff from Mill Creek MetroParks brought in a rabbit and a goat to teach the students a few things about barnyard animals. The students were able to go pet the animals after they learned about different types of animals that could be found on a farm.
Moff started off the lesson by reading the book “Sounds of the Farm.” After the book she played a CD with animal noises and had the students guess what animal was making each noise.
There was a board that Moff brought in to explain the different kinds of animals on a farm. There were animals that were considered livestock, poultry, pet and exotic. The students took turns guessing which animals belonged in each section. They also learned the different products that came from each animal.
The first animal the children were able to pet was a Lionhead rabbit named Frito. The children formed a line and pet the rabbit one at a time. They got to feel how soft the rabbit was and see how long its fur is.
The other animal that was brought out was a goat named Cupid. Cupid is a young goat that is a mix between a Pygmy and a Nigerian dwarf goat, meaning he will stay small for his whole life and is meant to be a pet.
The students all had a fun time learning about different animals and being hands-on with animals that they wouldn’t normally see otherwise.
