The 2016 Canfield Fourth of July Committee is hard at work planning and preparing for the city’s annual Fourth of July Parade, to take place on July 4.

The day will begin with race registration at 7:30 a.m. The Kids’ Run, during which they race around the Green, will start in front of Farmers National Bank at 8:15 a.m. The Firecracker Four Mile Fun Run will start in front of the Dairy Queen and is a timed race.

The parade will leave the Fairgrounds at 10:10 a.m. to have the honor guard arrive on the Green at 10:30 a.m. Food concessions, worked by area non-profit organizations which helps their annual fund raising efforts, will be available. After the parade, there will be games, bounce-arounds and a petting zoo for the children.

“The Canfield Fourth of July Parade in not in danger of being cancelled this year. The volunteers of the Fourth of July Committee are the ones who organize the parade, Kids’ Run and the Firecracker Four Mile Fun Run each year. The city does not fund the entire event. We have generous sponsors who help us fund the events. We also have donations of both time and money which help us provide the activities of the day. These sponsors and donations will make up for the short fall from the city,” said Clare Neff, Canfield Fourth of July Committee publicity chair.

Committee members include Tony Peluso, parade co-chair; Anthony Fusillo, dignitaries and children’s games; Chuck Colucci, police liaison; Enid Maldonado, committee co-chair, treasurer and concessions; Clare Neff, publicity; Gary Hubbard, parade and Firecracker Run chair; Dave Burch, committee co-chair; Steve Bennett, antique cars chair; Jeff Moliterno, dignitaries chair and Jim Queen and Mark Sabol, parade starters.

“While the City of Canfield is unable to make a monetary donation this year, they do help with insurance and the involvement of the police department for the day. The city also provides their Public Works crew to clean up immediately following the festivities. They do an outstanding job... by 4 p.m. you’d never know there had been any activities at all,” Neff said.

Neff said several Canfield High School alumni classes have offered donations for the committee to be able to continue a Canfield tradition.

“We have had a wonderful response from different alumni classes of CHS offering to donate and we truly appreciate any and all help to continue the Fourth of July festivities, a true Canfield tradition for over 50 years. Anyone who would like more information on how to donate to the Fourth of July Committee can e-mail us at info@canfieldfourthofjuly.com,” Neff said.
