Author Thomas Welsh to speak at Salem Historical Society event

SALEM

The Salem Historical Society will have a business meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the meeting room of the Dale Shaffer Library, 239 S. Lundy Ave.

A discussion, “Strouss’: Youngstown’s Dependable Store” presented Thomas G. Welsh Jr., will follow. Welsh co-authored a book with Michael Geltz on the department store, and during his speech he will discuss memories, trends and how the chain changed with the times. Welsh’s other books will be available for sale, and a book signing will follow his discussion.

Refreshments will be served by Dixie Gordon and Joan Lora while a video clip of Strouss’ Salem store employees recorded in 1950 will be screened. Guests and members will be greeted by Bernice Clark.

The meeting is open to the public. For information contact the Society at 330-337-8514.
