POLAND

Three people were injured – one adult and two juveniles – when the car in which they were riding went off the side of U.S. Route 224, hit a culvert and a tree, rolled over onto its roof and landed on the front porch of an occupied township home.

The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. Thursday west of Lowellville Road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. None of the car’s occupants suffered life-threatening injuries, according to a patrol news release.

The driver, Mandee L. Smiley, 23, of New Castle, Pa., was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Her juvenile occupants were taken to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley in Boardman. The accident is under investigation by the OSHP. Township police assisted with traffic control at the crash scene.

South Range district wins auditor award

Auditor of State Dave Yost recently announced winners for the Auditor of State Award, recognizing clean audit reports. A local winner of the award was the South Range Local School District.

The award is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. Requirements for a clean-audit report include timely filing of financial reports with the auditor’s office in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, and reports that do not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single-audit findings or questioned costs.

Youngstown man injured by gunfire

WARREN

A man, 27, of West Ravenwood Avenue in Youngstown was badly injured by one or more gunshots in the parking lot of an apartment on Fifth Street Southwest on Wednesday night.

Police found Kennett W. Jimenez on the ground between two vehicles. He was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital for treatment.

No further information was available Thursday.

Help Hotline plans luncheon Wednesday

Help Hotline’s annual luncheon in honor of victims of crime will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave.

Keynote speaker will be Robert Gavalier, chief of the Austintown Police Department, and guest speaker will be inspirational/motivational speaker Barbara Freeman.

The event coincides with National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, observed from April 10 to 16, which is supported by the Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs through the Ohio Attorney General’s office.

Cost is $25. Reservations are requested by Monday.
