Toledo scored the final six runs and held Youngstown State scoreless over the final six innings in a 6-4 victory over the Penguins on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at Eastwood Field.

YSU scored three runs in the first inning and led 4-0 after three innings, but the offense was shut down the rest of the game. YSU (6-18)stranded 10 runners and left the bases loaded in the seventh and ninth innings.

The Penguins had production throughout the lineup as every player who had an at-bat had a hit. Andrew Kendrick homered and singled and Billy Salem singled and doubled as YSU out-hit Toledo, 11-10.

Dalton Bollinger had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Toledo.

YSU had four hits in the first inning as it jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Lorenzo Arcuri led off with a single, went to third on a sacrifice bunt and a Salem single and scored on Kendrick’s RBI single. Shane Willoughby then hit a two-run double to deep center that plated Salem and Kendrick.

Kendrick’s solo homer came with two outs in the third, and Gerrad Rohan followed with a double. The Penguins had just four hits the rest of the contest.

YSU starter Collin Floyd allowed an infield single to Deion Tansel in the fourth, and Bollinger followed with a double to left to put Toledo on the board. Bollinger then scored on a two-out error to cut YSU’s lead in half.

Four straight Toledo batters reached in the fifth as it went ahead 5-4. Tansel hit an RBI double, and Bollinger followed with a two-run single to chase Floyd.

YSU stranded a runner in both the fifth and sixth innings and left the bases loaded in the seventh. After a 39-minute rain delay, Akron scored an insurance run in the eighth inning to go up 6-4.

Jonny Miller led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, and the Penguins had runners at the corners with one out after Alex Larivee singled. Larivee was thrown out trying to steal second, but walks to Salem and Kendrick allowed YSU to load the bases. Toledo closer Michael Jacob got Rohan to bounce back for the final out.
