Seminars target fraud, prevention

CANFIELD

The office of state Auditor Dave Yost is hosting a series of seminars statewide on how to detect and prevent fraud.

A local session is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 Palmyra Road.

The two-hour training sessions feature presentations by members of the auditor’s Public Integrity Assurance Team, who focus on spotting the warning signs of fraud, the various schemes people use to defraud – including payroll padding and check tampering – and how to use the best practices and controls to prevent fraud from occurring.

The training sessions are eligible for two hours of Fiscal Integrity Act continuing education and CLE credit. They are offered at no charge.

Visit www.ohioauditor.gov/trainings/registration or call 614-466-2813 to register.

Library to close to make way for branch

YOUNGSTOWN

The West Side branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will close at 6 p.m. April 30 to prepare for its demolition and replacement with a newly built $2.8 million branch on the same site at 2815 Mahoning Ave.

The new branch will be named in memory of Michael Kusalaba, whose family donated $1.68 million toward construction of the new library.

After the books and other materials are put in storage pending construction of the new library, a public sale of items no longer needed by the library system will take place in the building to be demolished.

Architect Ron Faniro of Youngstown is completing the new building’s design. The library will conduct a pre-construction meeting to take public comments on his design after he completes it, said Janet Loew, library communications and public relations director.
