Police: Man accused of killing baby daughter in Cleveland

CLEVELAND (AP) — Authorities say a 21-year-old city man accused of fatally shaking and beating his 1-month-old daughter has been charged with murder.

City prosecutors filed an aggravated-murder charge against Maurice Quarles on Wednesday in the death of his infant daughter, Genesis. Police say Quarles shook and beat the baby early Tuesday and hit the girl’s 17-year-old mother when she tried to intervene.

The baby was taken to a hospital, where police say she died. Authorities say the girl’s mother was treated for a head injury.

Quarles remained in jail today. Cleveland Municipal Court records do not list an attorney for Quarles.
