POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
March 28
Criminal damaging: Roughly 30 feet of tire ruts were found on a portion of lawn at Lowellville Cemetery, 2700 Stewart Road.
March 29
Criminal mischief: A car was damaged in the 7400 block of Cobblers Run Drive.
Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 3200 block of Hummingbird Hill Drive was found damaged.
March 30
Identity fraud: A Center Road man found out his debit-card information had been compromised.
April 2
Burglary: To a residence in the 3500 block of East Western Reserve Road through a rear door, though it appeared nothing was taken.
BOARDMAN
March 30
Theft: Mack A. Peeples Jr., 61, of Lakewood Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing four bottles or tubes of body-care items from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Theft: Dawn M. Broll, 30, and Vincent M. Broll, 29, both of Watson Street, Lowellville, were charged with theft and complicity to theft, respectively, after four articles of women’s clothing valued at $188 were stolen from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.
Breaking and entering: Someone entered a home in the 20 block of Crestline Place and took about $100 worth of miscellaneous collectible items.
Theft: A bulb was removed from a light socket on a porch in the 100 block of Melrose Avenue.
Theft: A checkbook was taken from a vehicle in the 20 block of Shadyside Drive.
Criminal mischief: Eggs were tossed at a car in the 100 block of Sugarcane Drive.
Theft: A woman reportedly stole five pairs of yoga pants from Victoria Secret Pink in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: A Youngstown man noticed his $700 iPhone missing while at a U.S. Route 224 fitness center.
Attempted fraud: An elderly Buchanan Drive woman told police a caller claiming to be her grandson said he was in jail in New York before a second caller claiming to be the grandson’s attorney told her he had posted bail but needed an additional $1,500. The woman learned that in reality her grandson was in the area, and she lost no money, a report showed.
Theft: A license plate was removed from a car in the 8400 block of Market Street.
Theft/extortion: A Canfield man reported that while in the 7400 block of Huntington Drive, a $300 laptop computer and five jerseys were stolen from his rental car, and that he received a series of text messages asking for money to have the property returned to him.
Theft: A girl, 15, and a 16-year-old boy, both of Youngstown, were accused of stealing $373.50 worth of merchandise from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: A woman reportedly left in a dark-blue Jeep vehicle after having stolen various items from Rite Aid Pharmacy, 307 Boardman-Canfield Road.
March 31
Attempted burglary: Someone apparently had tried to break into a first-floor apartment in the 3900 block of South Schenley Avenue after police found a broken storm window. A $20 cellphone charger was missing.
Burglary: Took place at an apartment in the 3900 block of South Schenley Avenue, from which $1,400, a DVD player and other property was taken.
Stolen property: After receiving a report of a possible stolen vehicle near South Avenue and Mathews Road, authorities charged 29-year-old Rockale M. Bailey of Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown, with one felony count of receiving stolen property after alleging Bailey was in a car that had been stolen in Austintown.
Theft: Several textbooks and a hair-cutting kit were among property stolen from a car in the 10 block of Montrose Circle.
Domestic violence: Leon C. Reynolds, 42, of Arden Boulevard, Boardman, faced a felony domestic-violence charge after his pregnant girlfriend alleged Reynolds had tossed a full 12-ounce can of beer, striking her stomach area.
Theft: A Grover Drive man saw that someone had rummaged through his vehicle and taken a wallet.
Theft: A Youngstown woman noticed her driver’s license missing while at Southern Park Mall.
Stolen property: Officers took custody of 20-year-old Megan E. Berlin of Meadowland Drive, Hubbard, who was charged with receiving stolen property after an employee with Mercy Health Hospital, 8401 Market St., said she noticed that her stolen $124 stethoscope had been posted for sale online.
Theft: Authorities at the Trumbull County jail picked up 28-year-old Edward P. Donley, who was wanted on a theft warrant. Donley, of Williamsburg Avenue, Warren, was accused of stealing $156 worth of perfume and cologne Jan. 10 from the J.C. Penney store.
Criminal mischief: A Wilda Avenue woman told officers juveniles had likely thrown a clod of dirt at her front door.
Theft: Kit Glass Jr., 37, who listed addresses on Market Street in Boardman and Oxford Street in Campbell, was charged with stealing 13 packages of lighters from Marc’s, 7121 Tiffany Blvd.
Recovered property: A 2005 Dodge vehicle was found in Youngstown after a Lisbon man had reported it stolen in the 7200 block of Market Street.
Domestic violence: An 11-year-old Willoughby boy was charged with domestic violence and resisting arrest after police conducted a welfare check in the 8200 block of Southern Boulevard and his father alleged the boy had shoved and kicked him during an argument. He also refused to follow officers’ directions, they said.
April 1
Assault: A man and a woman each reported having been assaulted by the other during a fight in a vehicle near Afton and Argyle avenues.
Theft: A woman reported a $25 trash can was stolen from her Lemont Drive home.
Citation: Police issued 29-year-old Kyle D. Hill of Commerce, Mich., a minor-misdemeanor citation after alleging they had found a small quantity of suspected marijuana during a traffic stop near South Avenue.
Theft: Authorities charged Cheyenne M. Craig, 22, of Carter Circle, Boardman, and 24-year-old Matthew S. Donofrio, same address, with stealing four steaks from Walmart.
Domestic violence: A 15-year-old township girl was charged after her sister alleged that during a heated argument, the teen had sprayed air freshener in her face, causing burning to her eyes, then grabbed the accuser from behind and refused to let her go.
Theft: Police charged 35-year-old David R. Everett with one count of theft. The Pittsburg, Calif., man was accused of stealing $177 worth of merchandise, including four DVDs, from Walmart.
Citation: Officers cited Joseph D. Craven, 27, of Applecrest Court, Boardman, during a traffic stop on South Avenue. He was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.
Theft by deception: Poland Village police exchanged custody of 36-year-old Michael T. Kerns with township authorities. Kerns, of Jennifer Drive, Poland, was charged with theft by deception related to a March 22 situation in which he was accused of trying to fraudulently return a $550 TV to Best Buy, 561 Boardman-Poland Road.
April 2
Aggravated menacing: A Colwyn Court man told officers he received secondhand information alleging his landlord with whom he’s had ongoing problems wanted to shoot him.
Arrest: Police on Market Street pulled over and took into custody 43-year-old Leland W. Scott Jr. of Columbus on a charge of violating a protection order after alleging the woman who had filed the order against him also was in the car.
Criminal mischief: Someone in the 100 block of Midgewood Drive threw eggs and struck a vehicle.
Fraud: A Glenwood Avenue man discovered his identity had been used to buy a store credit card, then found a $933 unauthorized charge that originated in Davison, Mich.
Theft: A worker for a Doral Drive big-box store reported a $600 iPhone and other items missing while at work.
Theft: Authorities charged Jeffery A. Byer of Delaware Avenue, Poland, with theft after having arrested the 42-year-old man during a traffic stop near Mathews Road. Byer was accused of stealing a hat and other items from Walmart.
Harassment: A Forest Park Place man said an acquaintance had made an obscene cellphone call to him.
Theft: A man discovered his daughter’s costume bag had been stolen at Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave.
Theft: A woman fled after reportedly taking four sweatshirts from Dollar General, 5953 South Ave.
Drugs: A traffic stop near Shields Road resulted in charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia against Joseph T. Slagle of Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman. The 20-year-old Slagle had a syringe and a spoon with suspected drug residue, a report said.
Theft: Video surveillance reportedly showed a woman stealing about $200 worth of merchandise, including undergarments, from Walmart.
Impersonation: The owner of a Market Street business reported a caller claiming to be an officer with the Beaver Township Police Department asked him to donate to a police-sponsored program, leading the accuser to believe it was a scam.
Theft: A man reportedly stole a large submarine sandwich from Walmart.
April 3
Arrest: After receiving a report of a motorist asleep in a car at a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant, police charged 32-year-old Lydell C. Hawkins of Columbus Street, Campbell, with operating a vehicle impaired.
Vandalism: A 2002 Dodge truck was found in the 1400 block of Turnberry Drive with a damaged rear window.
Burglary: To a mobile home in the 4000 block of South Avenue via the front door. Several saws were among items stolen.
Drugs: Authorities received a complaint of someone possibly selling drugs on Willow Drive before charging Lyndsey S. Handel, 29, of Centervale Avenue, Boardman, with possession of drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments. Found in her car were a suspected marijuana pipe, five hypodermic syringes, three spoons with suspected drug residue and a package of syringes, police alleged.
Theft: A man reportedly took five pairs of blue jeans and two men’s jackets from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: A Youngstown woman discovered her $600 iPhone missing while at a Boardman-Poland Road eatery.
Criminal mischief: A vehicle at Boardman High School had several scratches to its finish, resulting in a $1,000 damage estimate.
Misuse of a credit card: A Tippecanoe Road woman learned that her stolen card had been used without consent at several area businesses.
