Obama nominates woman for top military post

President Barack Obama has nominated Maj. Gen. Maryanne Miller, a graduate of Ohio State University and its ROTC program, for a third star and assignment as Chief of Air Force Reserve and Commander, Air Force Reserve Command, replacing Lt. Gen. James F. Jackson.
The announcement came Wednesday in a news release from Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.
After Senate confirmation, Miller will become the first female to achieve the rank of lieutenant general, the first female chief of the Air Force Reserve and the first female commander of the Air Force Reserve Command.
Miller has received many distinguished awards and decorations in her 35-year career and is a command pilot with more than 4,800 hours in numerous aircraft.
Miller is deputy to the chief of the Air Force Reserve, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. She assists the chief of the Air Force Reserve who serves as the principal adviser on Reserve matters to the secretary of the Air Force and Air Force Chief of Staff.
