Norquest Boulevard and North Turner Road in Austintown to be repaved

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County commissioners this morning awarded a $582,485 contract to Shelly & Sands Inc. of Zanesville for the repaving of all of Norquest Boulevard and North Turner Road in Austintown.

County Engineer Patrick Ginnetti said the job, covering a total of just over three miles of county roads, will likely begin this month as soon as the asphalt plants open.

The repaving of the deteriorated two-lane roads is being paid for with tax revenues from the Austintown racino, known as Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course. The roads are heavily-used by racino-bound traffic.

The commissioners also entered into a $125,634 agreement with the Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp. for renovations to the second floor of the county’s Children Services Building, 222 W. Federal St., to accommodate the county mental health and recovery board.

The mental health and recovery board is scheduled to move to the Children Services building by July 31, when the board’s lease for its second floor space in the Ohio One Building, 25 E. Boardman St., expires.

In the 11-year-old Children Services building, the mental health and recovery board will move into space that was previously occupied by the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation.

The mental health and recovery board is paying for the debt-free renovation of its new quarters with reserve funds derived from its local levy revenues.
