'The outlook is bright and hopeful here in the Buckeye state,' Kasich says in state of state tonight

MARIETTA

Gov. John Kasich wants to increase support for arts programs in schools, launch a new scholarship for children of military men and women and reduce tax withholdings to allow Ohioans to take home more of their paychecks, quickening the pace of tax cuts OK’d last year.

During a speech to a joint session of the state Legislature Wednesday night, the governor also proposed further limits on prescription painkillers, another comprehensive tax-reform package for 2017 and changes to how Ohio redraws its congressional districts.

Those were among the initiatives the governor announced during his annual State of the State address in Marietta, a nearly hourlong speech that included a look back at Ohio’s progress under his administration and a look forward at additional policy proposals.

“The state of our state is getting stronger every day, and the outlook is bright and hopeful here in the Buckeye state,” Kasich said.
