Defense: Lower bond for Ohio poll worker accused of pulling gun

CLEVELAND (AP) — A defense lawyer is trying to lower the bond for a Cleveland poll worker accused of pulling a gun on his co-workers during an argument.

Cleveland.com reports that defense attorney Michael Wolpert filed a motion on Monday asking Cuyahoga County Judge John O’Donnell to lower Allen Bethea’s bond from $5,000 to $2,000.

Wolpert says his 46-year-old client isn’t a threat to society.

Judge O’Donnell hasn’t ruled on the request.

Court records show Bethea has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated menacing and possession of deadly weapon in a school safety zone.

Authorities have said Bethea didn’t point the gun directly at anyone during the March 15 primary election but made verbal threats.

Police have said they found the gun and a small amount of suspected marijuana in his backpack.
