Concert band in benefit show

CANFIELD

Canfield Community Concert Band will present a spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Canfield High School.

The band is under the direction of Eric Bable, who is a music instructor for Crestview Local Schools.

The concert is a benefit for Operation Blessing, a volunteer group that provides food and other assistance to Mahoning County families in need. Started in 1985, Operation Blessing is housed at the Canfield Presbyterian Church and is supported by several Canfield-area churches, local businesses, school groups and individuals.

There is no admission charge for the concert, but donations of nonperishable food items and monetary donations to aid Operation Blessing will be accepted.

Titled “Heroes and Villains,” the concert will feature selections from “Sweeney Todd,” “Superman” by John Williams, and “The Inferno” and “The Ascension” from the “Divine Comedy” by Robert W. Smith. The band also will perform “Amazing Grace” arranged by William Himes. The Crestview High School Chamber Singers will join the band as guest artists, and Eric Bable will perform “Fantasy” as a euphonium soloist with band accompaniment.
