Southside garden seeks help to win grant

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown’s Southside Community Garden, at the corner of Williamson Avenue and Erie Street, has entered a Seeds of Change Grant Program and is seeking assistance from the community to help them win a possible $10,000 or $20,000 grant.

The grants aim to enhance the environmental, economic and social well-being of gardens, farms and communities, and will be awarded to organizations that help support sustainable, community-based gardening and farming programs which focus on teaching people about the food they eat and how it’s grown.

Southside plans to increase the impact of the garden in the community if they win.

The garden has hosted children’s summer garden programs, a butterfly festival and cooking classes.

Vote for the Southside Garden once a day through April 18 at www.seedsofchangegrant.com.

The top 50 organizations will move on to a final judging phase, and Seeds of Change will announce 12 school garden and 12 community garden grant recipients.

Two of each group will be $20,000 winners, and ten of each will be $10,000 winners.
