Public forum at YSU to focus on safety and security in cyberspace

Cybersafety is the topic of a two-day event hosted by Youngstown State University on Wednesday and Thursday, featuring presentations by cybersecurity experts and a screening of the award-winning film “Citizen Four” about Edward Snowden and the NSA spying scandal.

The event, held in conjunction with Cybersecurity and Privacy Awareness Day, focuses on helping attendees learn how to be safe online and to exercise responsible behavior, and how to increase awareness and resiliency in the event of a cyber incident. The event is sponsored by the Northeast Ohio chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Information Security and Ethical Hacking Association, and the YSU Computer Science and Information Systems Department.

Activities, free and open to the public, begin 6 p.m. Wednesday with the screening of “Citizen Four” in the auditorium of Williamson Hall on campus.

On Thursday, the following speakers will be featured:

11:15 a.m.: Social Engineering & Phishing Demonstration, by Wes Stanton and Jennifer Estrada of ISEHA, in the Williamson Auditorium.

12:05 p.m.: Personal Cyber security, STOP. THINK. CONNECT, by Jeremy Mio of the Cuyahoga County Department of Information Technology Security and Research, in the Williamson Auditorium.

2:35 p.m.: The Cloud & Privacy by Kevin Goodman of BlueBridge Networks, in the Williamson Auditorium.

6:05 p.m.: The Threats in CyberSpace, by George Nazarey of FireEye, in the auditorium in DeBartolo Hall.
