MILL CREEK UPDATE | Former park commissioners at tonight's session

YOUNGSTOWN — Several former Mill Creek MetroParks commissioners are in attendance at tonight's concerned citizens' meeting.

Former commissioner and board president Virginia Dailey, who served on the park board from 1997 until 2010, spoke out against park director Aaron Young's leadership, saying, "My personal opinion is, Aaron Young is not the man for the job. He humiliated his employees in public. ... He embarrassed the board. He embarrassed the judge. That is not the mark of a true leader."

Dailey, who detailed her opposition to former Mahoning County Probate Court Judge Mark Belinky's expansion of the park board from three to five members, called Young's dismissal of employees,"so demeaning, so humiliating."

"I think that circles back to someone who does not have the leadership skills we want to see in that position," she said.

Former park commissioner Rick Shale, who was on the board with Dailey, while defending the intentions of current board members, said the way staff cuts were handled was an "outrage."
