Man led police on a chase through Youngstown’s South Side

A 20-year-old Youngstown man, with a lengthy list of outstanding warrants, led police on a foot chase through the city’s South Side before being caught hiding under a parked car.

Police said officers were on an unrelated call on Emery Avenue about 4:15 p.m. Sunday when they recognized Lavontae Knight of West Florida Avenue as he has multiple warrants for his arrest. Also, he previously eluded U.S. marshals and Austintown police during two separate occasions, according to a Youngstown police report.

After realizing that officers spotted him, Knight ran to South Avenue and then through the backyards of Cameron Avenue and other streets on the South Side, according to the police report.

Officers found him hiding under a vehicle in an open garage on Mabel Street and charged him with obstructing official business, the report states.

He has outstanding warrants for charges including failure to appear in court, possession of heroin, failure to comply with a police officer, possession of cocaine and obstructing official business, the report states.
