Neu notches prestigious mark

Slippery rock

Senior YSU thrower Conner Neu notched a hammer throw of 70.96 meters at the Slippery Rock Dave Labor Invitational on Saturday afternoon, taking first in the competition while setting a school-record. He broke his previous record of 66.19 meters and also placed first in the discus throw with a toss of 47.67 meters.

Penguins coach Brian Gorby said Neu’s hammer throw mark — currently ranked second in the entire country — should qualify the former Second-Team All-American for the NCAA Outdoor Championships later in the season, as well as the 2016 Olympic Trials in Oregon on July 1-8, where the top 16 Hammer Throwers will compete for 3 spots to make the Olympic Team in Rio.
