BASEBALL

Ursuline 7, Walsh Jesuit 5

STRUTHERS

The Fighting Irish used a five-run fourth inning and scored the go-ahead two runs in the fifth to down Walsh Jesuit. Brice Bokesch finished 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored for Ursuline, Logan Pullin notched two doubles and scored two runs and Vito Petrillo had two RBIs. Vinny Lucente started on the mound for the Irish, allowing three earned runs and striking out five in five innings, while Chris Patton relieved to pitch a scoreless final two innings.

Crestview 16, Struthers 3, 5 innings

STRUTHERS

The Rebels run-ruled Struthers as 10 players recorded at least one hit. Riley Mackall and Jeff Feo each had two hits for Crestview (4-1) while Kaden Davis and Devin Turvey each collected two RBIs. Jake Bova was the losing pitcher for Struthers (3-3).

SOFTBALL

Jackson-Milton 5, Lordstown 3

NORTH JACKSON

The Bluejays (1-3) picked up their first win of the season thanks to in part to a four-run fifth inning. Madee Hyland started on the mound before giving the ball to Amy Ritchie who picked up the win. Ritchie picked up three hits, scoring two runs, while Korie Gross and Taylor Shali each had two hits of their own. Lordstown’s (0-3) Josie Toporcer struck our four and walked three.

Champion 2, Poland 1

CHAMPION

McKenzie Zigmont shut down the Bulldogs with 10 strikeouts as Poland (1-2) managed just three hits on the afternoon. The Golden Flashes (2-1) scored the eventual winning run with a Carli Swipas walk to start the fifth before Alayna Fell bunted her to second. Zigmont then singled to right center to bring home Swipas.

West Branch 7, Lakeview 5

BELOIT

West Branch pushed its record to 5-0 after Grace Heath went deep for a three-run homer when her team was trailing 4-1. Kylie Coffett relieved Warriors starter Kelsey Byers in the third inning and despite giving up nine hits to the Bulldogs (2-1), she allowed only one run while striking out six and walking one. Coffett is 2-0 on the year.

Ursuline 12, St. Thomas Aquinas 2

LOUISVILLE

The Fighting Irish (3-1) pushed across seven runs in the first three innings and didn’t look back. Megan Ross was a homer run shy of a cycle with three hits. Ross scored four runs while pitcher Jordyn Kenneally struck out six while adding a double and two RBIs at the plate.

Howland 7, McDowell (Pa.) 0

MYRTLE BEACH, SC.

Leah Pollifrone paced Howland with two hits and an RBI, while Hannah Kowach tossed seven scoreless innings as Howland shut out McDowell.

Boardman 7, Cardinal Mooney 1

BOARDMAN

Sydney Aey pitched a complete game for Boardman, striking out 12 Cardinals. Lauren Gabriele and Olivia Russell each hit home runs. Hayley Eicher and Miyah Mitchum each with 2 for 3 as Boardman pounded out 10 hits on the afternoon. Conchetta Rinaldi and Kayla Rutherford each had two of Mooney’s six hits.

Lowellville 20, Valley Christian 3

LOWELLVILLE

The Rockets rolled to a comfortable win over the Eagles. Sisters Jess and Hannah Johnston each went 4 for 4 while Olivia Sotlar hit a grand slam. Isabella Sotlar picked up her second win of the year.
