Canfield students perform at Disney
CANFIELD
Canfield High School band and choir students performed in 91-degree weather in a Disney World parade Friday.
This is the first time in four years students have made the trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. The trip is taken every four years, so students get to go at least once during their high-school years, said Mike Kelly, Canfield band director.
Bob Ward, a Canfield band parent, is on his third trip to Disney World.
“It’s just such a great time,” Ward said. “The kids get so excited.”
Ward said the trip usually goes smoothly because of Kelly’s excellent organizational skills.
“It’s incredible, really. Mr. Kelly did over a year of planning on this, and thank God he’s so organized,” Ward said. “Everyone knows where the kids are and where they are supposed to be. He’s very caring. I can’t express my appreciation enough for Mr. Kelly.”
Kelly said his students are the ones who make the trip easy.
“It’s very rewarding to have such extremely well-behaved students representing our community with a pride we’ve come to expect from our kids,” Kelly said.
One hundred sixty-two band students, 66 choir students and more than 20 chaperones joined the Florida trip. Some chaperones even brought family members to join the Disney World experience.
Ward said the trip probably wouldn’t have been possible without the helpfulness of all the directors and chaperones, plus fundraising.
“It’s just been a magical experience,” Ward said.
