UPDATE | Ramos shot in leg, police say

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Police have issued a statement on the capture of Luis Cruz Ramos.

"Members of the US Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force were actively searching for Luis R Cruz-Ramos," said Capt. Brad Blackburn in the news release. "He was spotted walking near the 200 block of Lowell Avenue. He fled toward Maywood, holding a handgun as the task force attempted to apprehend him."

Ramos was shot in the leg by a task force member, Blackburn said, and was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for "what appeared to be a non-life threatening wound."

"He is being held on two counts of felonious assault stemming from the pursuit yesterday as well as the outstanding warrant he was originally sought for," Blackburn said. "No Youngstown officers were involved in the shooting and that part of the investigation is being conducted by the Ohio State Patrol and the U.S. Marshals office."
