Niles 14, Columbus De Sales 4

Piling on 16 hits in six innings, Niles battered Columbus De Sales, an historic program that owns three state titles, at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach.
“Just to be able to come down to the Ripken Experience and beat a team like that is a pretty good benchmark for where our program is right now,” Niles coach Mike Guarnieri said.
The only troublesome inning for Red Dragons starter Jaret Johnson was the fourth, where he gave up four runs on two hits and two walks. Otherwise, Johnson was in control, finishing the game with 10 strikeouts while giving up five hits and four walks. Damien Coleman smacked a three-run homer while going a perfect 3 for 3. Another perfect hitter was Marco DeFalco, who went 4 for 4 including a double and three RBIs. Leadoff hitter Geno Barricella was 2 for 5 with three runs scored to RBIs and a triple. Niles (2-1) is in South Carolina for a five-game series before returning to Ohio.
Howland 7, Cincinnati Walnut Hills 4
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.
A four-run fifth inning helped stake the Tigers to a 6-1 lead and they held on to beat the Eagles. Nathan Leventis singled twice, walked twice and scored three runs for Howland. Dylan Beasom, Josh Shver and Zach Nites drove in runs for the Tigers. Howland pitcher Jacob Harsany worked the first five innings for the victory and allowed only one run on three hits. Craig Lewis worked the seventh for a save.
Jackson-Milton 21, Maplewood 3
NORTH JACKSON
The Bluejays (2-0) clubbed 15 hits on their way to a run-rule win. Noah Laster had four of those hits, two of which were doubles as he racked up four RBIs. John Voland had a double and four RBIs and Justin Rentz drove in three runs.
Western Reserve 14, Columbiana 9
BERLIN CENTER
Western Reserve exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh to blow up a tie game. Jake Clark went 4 for 5 with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Blue Devils (2-0) while Dom Velasquez went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Mitch Davidson went 3 for 5 with two runs scored for the Clippers (0-2).
SOFTBALL
South Range 3, Green 2 8 innings
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.
The Raiders squeaked across one run in the top of the eighth to defeat the Bulldogs. Morgan Smith and Hope Thomas each had two singles for South Range (3-1) who had no extra base hits in the win. Madison Walker pitched all eight innings.
Canfield 4, Columbus De Sales 2
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.
Canfield survived a late-inning rally to improve to 5-0 on the season. Chloe Cruz reached base three times and homered in the sixth for Canfield before de Sales got two runs in the final inning before falling short. Bridget Durkin picked up the win pitching seven innings, striking out three and walking one.
McDonald 6, Springfield 6 10 innings
NEW MIDDLETOWN
The Blue Devils and Tigers called it a draw due to darkness after 10 innings. McDonald (1-1-1) had Cheyenne Titus pitch all 10 innings, striking out seven and walking one while Olivia Sanson went 3 for 5 with a double and two runs. Springfield’s (2-0-1) Nikki Bobo had four hits and scored four runs.
Champion 10, Girard 0
GIRARD
Drake Batcho tossed a five-inning shutout for Champion, striking out seven while walking just one. The Golden Flashes were paced by Jake Walters’ three hits, while Lucas Nasonti, Kyle Forrest and Aaron Williams all doubled.
Lisbon 17, United 0
LISBON
Lisbon used a nine-run second inning to key its rout of United. Noah Barnes pitched five scoreless innings and Cameron Summers led the Blue Devils with three hits and three RBIs. Also, Nick Bowen, Collin Sweeney, Avery Andric, Frank Morell, David Toot and Barnes each had two hits.
Lisbon 9, United 7
LISBON
Lisbon needed a five-run sixth inning to finish off United. Kenedy Vrable led the Blue Devils with three RBIs and Kimmi Wiggers collected two RBIs on two hits. United’s Paterson struck out 12 in seven innings.
Ursuline 3, Erie McDowell (Pa.) 1
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.
Jordyn Kenneally opened the game with a two-run double in a three-run first inning. It was all Ursuline (2-1) needed to win. Kenneally threw all seven innings, giving up a run, five hits and two walks while striking out 10.
Columbiana 9, Western Reserve 2
COLUMBIANA
Columbiana’s Holly Gotthardt and Marisa McDonough combined to one-hit Western Reserve (0-1). Gotthardt allowed the one hit, an earned run and four walks with three strikeouts to get the win. McDonough struck out four and walked one in two innings of work. At the plate, Gotthardt had a double and three RBIs, Elise Hammond hit a double and a triple and Kennedy Fullum had a double and two RBIs for the Clippers (2-0).
West Branch 2, Louisville 1 8 innings
BELOIT
After giving up the tying run in the seventh inning on an error, West Branch (4-0, 2-0) responded by winning the game in the extra inning. Kelsey Byers, the game’s winning pitcher, doubled in Maddie Pidgeon for the winning run. Byers won in relief giving up one hit while striking out four.
