The Girard Board of Education approved a memorandum of agreement for the Success by Six academic intervention program with costs not to exceed $13,500.

The four-week summer program identifies high-need pre-kindergarten students and seeks to prepare them for the coming school year.

The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley initiated Success by Six in 2009. Eighteen Valley school districts use the program, according to the United Way web site.

In other business, the board approved a $1,246 assistant track coach contract for Amanda Groves and approved hiring Laura Sonney as academic intervention specialist for Prospect Elementary School. Sonney will earn $70 a day, to be paid through federal Title 1 funds, and will work no more than four days per week.
