Supreme Court justice says she owes female predecessors
COLUMBUS (AP) — U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan says she owes a great deal to the women who came before her on the court.
Justice Kagan says former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and current Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg built legal careers at a time when doors were often shut to women in the field.
Justice Kagan said in remarks today at Ohio State University that the legacy of those justices has made her life much easier.
She said she tries hard to listen to the opinions of her fellow justices when deciding a case and says she often gains a perspective she didn’t have at first.
She says she sees some benefit to allowing cameras in the courtroom, but also has concerns they would detract from the overall work of justices.
