A man was arrested early Monday after police said he threatened a woman and told three police officers that he hoped they would die.

Jonathan Chism, 27, is in the Mahoning County jail on felony charges of domestic violence and obstructing official business after his arraignment Monday before Magistrate Anthony Sertick. His bond was set at $25,000.

Reports said officers were called to a home in the 400 block of West Glenaven Avenue about 1:50 a.m. on a report of a man threatening to throw a woman out of a window. When they arrived, they found Chism arguing with a woman in the kitchen.

Reports said Chism refused several commands to move away from the woman, including two when an officer pulled his electronic stun weapon, before he finally moved away.

The woman told police Chism came home drunk about 1:20 a.m. and pounded on the door to be let in, but the woman told him to return when he was sober, reports said.

Reports said he kicked in the door, which hit a 10-year-old child in the face, and the woman went upstairs. But Chism followed her, and at one point grabbed her by the neck before she went back downstairs, which was where the two were when police arrived.

Reports said Chism was handcuffed but repeatedly was able to slip the cuffs from his back to the front, despite repeated warnings to stop. Reports said he also told officers he “knows why pigs are getting killed,” and that he wished the three officers who were there would die.

At his arraignment, assistant city Prosecutor Jeffrey Moliterno said Chism pleaded guilty to domestic violence and aggravated menacing in a July 9 incident with the same woman.

Then, Chism was arrested after he was accused of beating the same woman in the same home. Reports said police were called to the home, but the woman was unable to talk to them because Chism was holding her down. After they were called back a second time, he was found at West Glenaven and Rosedale avenues and arrested.

In that case, Chism was sentenced to 12 days served in the jail as well as a $100 fine and also was placed on probation. He is expected to be charged with violating his probation because of his most-recent arrest and could face more jail time.
