Crestview, Poland ranked high in Ohio AP poll

Mahoning Valley unbeatens Crestview and Poland continue to be the area’s top-ranked high school football teams in the weekly Associated Press poll.

The Rebels (5-0) are second in Division V in the latest poll, which was released on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs (5-0) are third in Division III.

Crestview received three first-place votes and 194 points and trails only Coldwater (5-0) among Division V teams. Coldwater received 21 first-place votes, the second-highest total in any division.

The voting was tighter in Division III. Poland received three first-place votes and 169 points. Cleveland Benedictine (5-0) led with 14 first-place votes and 222 points, followed by Akron Hoban (5-0) with seven first-place votes and 209 points.

Lisbon (5-0) and Warren JFK (4-1) are the only other Valley team with first-place votes — each with two of them — in this week’s poll. The Blue Devils (5-0) are ninth in Division VI with 39 points. The Eagles are fifth in Division VII with 124 points. Jackson-Milton (4-1) and Mathews (4-1) are 14th and 16th, respectively, in Division VII.

Ursuline (3-2) and Salem (5-0) are 11th and 13th, respectively, in Division IV. Warren Harding (4-1) fell to 12th in Division II in the wake of a 33-22 loss to Ursuline in Week 5. The Raiders had been fifth after their first 4-0 start since 2004.
