Boccieri will replace Gerberry, caucus spokeman says

COLUMBUS — John Boccieri, a former congressman and state legislator, will be the next 59th Ohio House District representative.

A five-member Ohio House Democratic Caucus screening committee and House Democratic leadership are supporting Boccieri, and there’s no reason to believe the full 33-member caucus won’t back him Wednesday, said Jordan Plottner, the caucus’ spokesman.

After the caucus vote, Boccieri will be confirmed by the full House Wednesday afternoon, Plottner said.

Boccieri of Poland was the frontrunner from the start of this process. The two other candidates are former Boardman Trustee Robyn Gallitto and John Landers, a Boardman school board member.

The seat was vacated when Ronald V. Gerberry, an Austintown Democrat, resigned Aug. 21, the same day he was convicted of unlawful compensation of a public official.

The term runs through Dec. 31, 2016.

Dec. 16 is the filing deadline to run in the primary for a full two-year term next year.
