Austintown police arrest suspect wanted for convenience store robberies

AUSTINTOWN — Austintown police on today arrested a suspect wanted for robberies at convenience stores in Boardman and Austintown.

Police from both agencies began searching for Marc Schadel, 29, of Austintown, about 5 a.m., and confirmed he had been taken into custody shortly before 6 p.m. today.

The search for Schadel began shortly after Boardman police were dispatched to Circle K, 7103 Lockwood Blvd. at 5 a.m. for a reported robbery.

The suspect reportedly approached the checkout counter with an energy drink, handed the cashier a note demanding money and then fled with the drink when the employee refused to give him money.

Less than 10 minutes later, a similar incident occurred at a convenience store at 3670 S. Meridian Road in Austintown, and police determined that it likely was the same suspect. Schadel reportedly got away with approximately $150 in that robbery.

He then led Youngstown police on a chase, which was terminated without an arrest made at that time.
