Marcus Honsaker avoids the death penalty

WARREN

Marcus Honsaker avoided the death penalty today in the death of his great-uncle by pleading guilty to lesser charges.

Honsaker, 27, of Reo Court, will spend life in prison with no chance for parole for killing Donald Giovannone, 71, at Giovannone's house on Atlantic Street Northwest in November 2014.

Honsaker pleaded guilty today in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence.

But prosecutors dropped the death-penalty specifications in exchange for Honsaker's guilty pleas to the other charges.

Police found Giovannone stabbed to death Nov. 20.
