Garden Forum announces contest results from fair

The Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area Inc. has announced the results of various competitions from entrants at the 169th Canfield Fair.

A total of 105 participants were judged on 1,050 entries Sept. 1, which were judged that night and displayed through Sept. 4, and 72 participants had 897 entries Sept. 5, which were judged and on display through Sept. 7.

Best of Show results Sept. 1 were:

Begonia and design: Dianna Mullins

Dahlia: Joyce Habeger

Succulent container: Cheryl Prior

Fuchsia hanging basket: Alyssa Lynch

Best of show winners Sept. 5 were:

Zinnia: Glenn Adkins

Rose: William Black

Dahlia: Joyce Habeger

Design: Mrs. John Biery

The annual door-decorating competition sponsored by the forum is limited to five doors on a first-come, first-served basis. The clubs entering that competition were Mahoning Garden Club, Garden Gate Garden Club of Poland, Garden Club of Youngstown, St. Michael Garden Guild and Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society.

Entries for the best door were judged by the public attending the fair. A total of 713 votes were cast in the competition, and the winner, with 356 votes, was Garden Gate Garden Club of Poland.
