Contest celebrates Teen Read Week
BRISTOLVILLE
Bristol Public Library, 1855 Greenville Road, will celebrate Teen Read Week with a three-week “Get Away @ Bristol Public Library” contest from Thursday through Oct. 22 for teens in grades 7 to 12.
Teens who check out, read and return books from the library’s young adult collection will receive one prize drawing ticket for each book. Tickets will be entered for a chance to win prizes, as well as a grand prize Kindle Fire HDX.

Salem center to offer swimming lessons
SALEM
The Salem Community Center, 1098 N. Ellsworth, will host an American Red Cross swimming lesson program every Saturday from Oct. 3 through Nov. 21.
Instructors are Red Cross WSI certified and have many years of experience. Six learn-to-swim levels are available, along with a Mommy and Me level for infants and a parent.
The cost is $70 for nonmembers and $55 for members. Multiple child discounts are available.

Animal Charity to host 3K/5K run
YOUNGSTOWN
Animal Charity will host a Rover Fun Run 3K/5K on Saturday at Wick Recreation Area in Mill Creek Park. Registration is at 9 a.m., and the race begins at 10.
The cost is $25 for a single racer or $50 for a family of four. Dogs participate for free.
All proceeds benefit Animal Charity.
There will be adoptable dogs at the event. A carnival-themed party will be offered after the run.

Dressed for the Day program at church
POLAND
The Poland Historical Society will sponsor a Dressed for the Day program from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor.
Historical authors Mary K. Inman and Louise F. Pence will provide a narrated demonstration about the clothing, cultural history and daily life of the early settlers, and an afternoon tea will follow.
The cost is $20, and proceeds will support preservation and education. Seating is limited, call 330-536-6877 for reservations.
Barktoberfest Luau set for Saturday

The Pet Hydrant, 514 E. Park Ave., will host a Barktoberfest Luau event from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday to benefit All Paws are Perfect.
There will be a 50-50 raffle, raffle baskets, music, free giveaways and adoptable dogs at the event.
Prizes will be awarded for a best dressed dog, best dressed human and best dressed dog and human combo.
Prepaid $5 entry will cover all food, drinks and dog treats at the event.
Tickets will be $10 at the door.
