Niles cops show how realistic ‘toy’ guns can look
Staff report
NILES
Police received a call Thursday afternoon from a resident who stated that a juvenile brandished a handgun after the resident asked him not to trespass in his yard.
Officers located a group of juveniles and found them with a replica firearm. The youths were taken into custody, and at least one was charged with aggravated menacing.
Although it turned out to be a BB or Airsoft type of gun that shoots plastic pellets that are loaded into the replica bullet, the danger is very real, Niles police said on their Facebook page.
“We cannot stress to parents and others that possessing these guns can have tragic consequences as there is no way most people can discern that guns such as these are not real firearms,” the statement said.
