A man has pleaded not guilty to making intimidating comments outside a suburban Cleveland mosque.
Police in Parma say 52-year-old James Remington stopped his car outside the mosque on Thursday morning while people were gathering. They say Remington engaged a mosque official who was helping direct traffic and began calling worshippers child molesters and terrorists.
The mosque official says Remington reached for something under the passenger seat. Police later found a hatchet under the seat. He drove away, nearly hitting the mosque official.
Officers who were directing traffic apprehended Remington, who was charged with ethnic intimidation. He pleaded not guilty in court Friday morning and was bound over to the county grand jury. Bond was set at $5,000.
