The Poland library hosted a free Soap Making class on Aug. 20.

Those in attendance got to make various soaps out of household and easy to get materials and take them home.

Students were enthralled that the class was free of charge.

Sue Gentile said she was interested in the course, never having tried soap making before.

Gentile said she participates in many courses offered at various libraries, both online and in-person.

“I like being able to try something for free,” Gentile said. “If I like it fine and if I don’t I’m not wasting anything. Plus it’s a night out.”

Bonnie Cuculich said she appreciated the opportunity to be educated in something new.

“It’s free and you learn something,” Cuculich said.

Marcy Melanson agreed.

“I can’t believe they put this on and don’t charge for it,” Melanson said.

Gentile said she hopes the libraries continue to put on classes like this, opening up opportunities to try something new for the community.
