Canfield Local Schools announces youth basketball skill academy
The Canfield High School boys’ basketball program will be hosting the annual Cardinals’ Basketball Youth Skills Academy in preparation for the 2015-2016 basketball season. All current Canfield fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade boys are eligible participants. The first night of The Academy will be on Nov. 3 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Canfield Village Middle School. For more information or to register, visit www.mmuck7.weebly.com and click on Youth Basketball. The cost will be $20 per participant and can be paid on the first evening of The Academy.
Canfield soccer wins against South Range
The Canfield boys varsity soccer team won against South Range on Sept. 19 with a score of 3-1. Goals for Canfield were made by Tanor English with assistance from Christian Hume, English with assistance from Tyler Young and Justin Jickess unassisted. Canfield took 18 shots against South Range, and Jeff Joseph blocked 10 from South Range. Canfield’s record stands at 6-0-1.
Canfield volleyball aces Howland
The Canfield girls varsity volleyball team beat Howland in three straight sets with the scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-15. For Canfield, Jenna Varley had eight kills, Lara Quirk had six kills, Morgan Leonard had seven kills, five aces and 13 points, Jessica Meissner had 17 digs and Emma Hartshorn had 31 assists and four kills.
Boys soccer defeats Lakeview
In the Sept. 17 match up, the Canfield boys varsity soccer team defeated Lakeview 1-0. Ben Feuer scored the sole goal for Canfield on a penalty kick. Canfield took 10 shots and had nine saves against Lakeview. The junior varsity boys soccer team also won against Lakeview, with the score of 3-0.
Varsity soccer beats to Fitch
On Sept. 15, the Canfield High School boys varsity soccer team defeated Austintown Fitch 3-0. For Canfield, Justin Jickess had two goals and Brandon Seybert had one. Canfield also had two assists from David Montazeri and one from Ben Feuer. Fitch took 13 shots, and Canfield took 12. Hunter Klaus had eight saves for Fitch, and Jeff Joseph had 10 saves for Canfield. Fitch’s record is 6-1-0 for the season and 3-1-0 in the AAC Red. Canfield’s record is 4-0-1 for the season and 3-0-1 in the AAC Red.
Canfield volleyball defeats Youngstown East
In the Sept. 14 game, Canfield volleyball beat Youngstown East in three straight sets with the scores of 25-8, 25-8 and 25-8. For Canfield, Maddy Johns had two assists, Emma Hartshorn had four kills and 15 points, Morgan Leonard had 12 points and six kills, Emilie Miasek had one kill and Jessica Meissner had 11 digs.
Hall of Fame nominations being accepted

The school year is almost upon us and soon fall sports will begin. Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a fall sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.
