Austintown OKs resumption of Hearts drawing

AUSTINTOWN — Township trustees unanimously approved the resumption of Queen of Hearts at Barry Dyngles this morning.

This follows a meeting Thursday night between township officials and representatives of the pub at 1601 S. Raccoon Road and the gaming board supplier, Nannicola Inc. based in Youngstown.

The drawing will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday and to win 100 percent of the jackpot the winner does not have to be present. The 50 percent cut if the winner was not present was a "house rule" created by Barry Dyngles.

Trustees Jim Davis and Rick Stauffer said they spent a few hours speaking to businesses on Raccoon and New roads and found most of the businesses negatively impacted by the draws will be closed at the time of the next draw.

A majority of those businesses spoken to "like the suggested change," Stauffer said.

"We don't want to effectively help an Austintown business in Austintown by hurting another one," said Ken Carano, Austintown trustee.
